The first price import has not run yet. Once it has, this table lists new, in-stock offers from US retailers, sorted by price per TB, each with the time we saw it. We do not publish estimated prices.
What to check before you buy
Why 4TB. At 4TB, endurance ratings and DRAM cache sizes are usually higher than at smaller capacities of the same model. Two examples from manufacturer datasheets:
| Model, 4TB | Interface | Rated endurance | DRAM cache |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung 870 EVO | SATA 6 Gb/s, 2.5-inch | 2,400 TBW | 4GB LPDDR4 |
| WD_BLACK SN850X | PCIe 4.0 x4, M.2 2280 | 2,400 TBW | not stated |
Sources: Samsung 870 EVO datasheet; Sandisk WD_BLACK SN850X.
Price per TB, not price. A 4TB drive costs more than a 2TB drive, but may cost less per TB. The table is sorted by price per TB for that reason.
Single- or double-sided. Some high-capacity M.2 drives carry chips on both sides of the board, which can matter in thin laptops. Check the drive’s height in its datasheet against your device.
For a PS5. Sony supports M.2 drives from 250GB to 8TB, so 4TB is within range. The drive must be PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe and needs a cooling structure such as a heatsink or heat transfer sheet (Sony).
How to read the table
- Price per TB is the price divided by capacity in terabytes (decimal, 1TB = 1,000GB)— the fairest way to compare different sizes.
- As of is when we saw the price (US Eastern time). Retailer prices can change at any time.
- Planned sources: US retailers such as Newegg, Best Buy and B&H Photo. None is connected yet. Sales tax, where it applies, is added at checkout.
- New, in-stock offers only. Details: methodology.
